Fresh Cut Trees & Allergies

Each year many people inquire as to which fresh Christmas Trees are the least likely to irritate individual's allergies. While it is possible to have an allergy to the sap of certain species of tree and the pollens trees produce while growing, farm grown fresh Christmas trees brought indoors for the holiday season are rarely the culprit of an allergic reaction.

Sources such as the National Institute of Environmental Health Science (NIEHS) and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) confirm that of the 50,000 different kinds of trees, less than 100 have been shown to cause allergies and are typically specific to one type of tree and pollens from pine trees are not a known allergy.

Being outdoors for years in a field fresh Christmas trees can collect pollens, dust, mold or other allergens from its surrounding environment. Whether you use a fresh cut Christmas tree from a farm or an artificial tree which has been stored, if you have sensitivities to dust, molds, etc., the AAAAI recommends you spray your tree down in the yard with a hose and let it dry completely before bringing it indoors.
